I’ve been keeping an eye on this game for the past couple months.  Although it does have a bit of an “asian” style to it, I may be able to look past that and still give it an honest try.

Personally, I don’t like “asian style” mmo’s and it’s part of the reason I never played AION.  Sure the graphics are great, but I just don’t ultimately like the way they develop the games. Asian developers who create MMO’s for the Western world are awesome, but on the same page the US is always going to be second fiddle to the game’s main crowd in the Asian market.

Tera online is being developed by Bluehole Studios which is owned by En Masse Entertainment. The people behind the game are definately MMO veterans from previous companies like Blizzard or NCsoft, holding important positions. The majority of the crew is from NCSoft and were part of Lineage 2 development.  The experience being built up around the game is definately notable, but at the same time thats how the game industry goes: these people leave this company after it goes retail on to the next company, its like a big revolving door.

Its not uncommon now a days to see all these new studios pop up out of no where from disgruntled employee’s of one of the bigger companies.  A worthy mention is Patrick Wyatt, who’s been a wildly respected leader in the gaming industry for 19 years. Starting off with Blizzards Warcraft and Starcraft franchise he then moved on to co-found ArenaNet, launch Guild Wars and become CTO of NCsoft West.

The same old story we’ve heard from the last 10 games that have come and gone in the last 5 years. I’ll still hold out hope that Tera can be half of what its stating.
