I personally like the idea of classes having their own ways of saving their asses. It will definitely bring a great new dimension to PvE where it will be entirely group based where the only person you can rely on is yourself. I believe that this will separate the boys from the men especially in PvP, I mean if there isn't one function full on healer then that means your just going to generally outplay that other person in skill and wits. I like to think of it as a live action chess battle being your opponent has just as much power as you do. Now that being said I am not sure if gear is going to have a MAJOR effect on gameplay, if its balanced where the rarer the item is the more just basic additional points and not absurd amounts of plus anything really. Granted the more hardcore guys are going to get more of a chance at the PvP simply because he worked for that gear. I doubt that also gear well have a negative effect on basic damage not putting you under the mercy of the gear holder essentially (if your wondering about me adding this take a look at a game like WAR if they stacked the damage reducing skill you just had no chance.). Anyways this is all my personal opinion and the best way I can put it.

Wow this is a really long post I kinda got lost on my own train of thoughts and this trippy music, and I'm pretty blazed so yeah...

Ruh roh.. I feel the onset of a Skill vs Gear arguement insuing...
I've always believed Gear should give you an EDGE not be the DESIDING FACTOR in pvp. Stats, effects, and bonus from gear should be dumbed down for PvP. Otherwise the 12 yr old who ditches school and plays 20hrs a day is going beat the 30yr old working class family man who's WAY more skilled. The mere fact the 12 yr old hits has an item/weapon for 400 and the 30yr old hits for 60.

I mean I consider the really rare gear to be your own personally trophy that you can show off, wear, and it also feels more rewarding when that trophy increase your chances at killing. All I'm saying is that a slight edge to the gear because that was what GW1 was famous for, if you were starting out you didn't have a shot but your appreciation and dedication for the game is shown on your avatar.

Summed up my thoughts right there.

also just like to add that there will also be monsters that are a one time kill only monster so gathering loot from that NPC is a trophy as well as a reward. Knowing how hardcore we are we are going to be having some of those extremely rare items to show off.

They are showing this game to be more and more just a single player dungeon run through. They are trying to adapt a game so you don't have to rely on allies. But at the same time, it's called "Guild wars". Not sure how it will really play out. I see GW1 but longer story and a couple more characters.

While I played Guild Wars monks mostly always went with some sort of protection setup anyway. It wound up being stronger all around than straight healing. It was also much more fun then a traditional healing role in my opinion. If this is what they are going for I strongly support it.

Well we are just in Alpha as well it just wouldn't be GW without PvP I mean thats like taking the stink away from a skunk. Give it some more time and we will start to see some PvP and some full on Raiding PvE.
