    Phoenix question

Is there a list of units the phoenix can grav lift up? I played a game the other day where i went stalker/sentry/void ray and it was raping pretty hard PvP, but got the idea of, what the hell would this dude do if his 3 colosuss were floating in the air doing nothing while phoenixs just sat and shot them

Pheonix cannot lift up massive units such as the Ultralisk, and the Collosus. That is all.

Thor is also considered a massive unit... so can't lift that either.

I find pheonix is extremely helpful in PvP by removing those pesky immortals. Usually if I go mass ground (stalker/charglot/sentry) I can rape a tosser who tries to do the usual sentry/stalker/ immortal push by adding a pheonix or three to my army. Pheonix flanks his forces and lifts the immortals that usually hang out in the back. Of course he will try to snipe them down, but while his stalkers are busy, you can deal enough damage to his stalkers with your own stalkers (since they have extra dmg vs armored) to win the skirmish. This also buys you time for the chargelots to get in position to take-out his immortals once your pheonix are focused down.

Likewise if he goes for colossi or voids instead of immortals, pheonix reasonably counters both.

From my experience it works great in a PvP mirror as it catches the opponent off guard. This also allows for an easy transition into void rays for mid-late game.

In my experience phoenix are just about useless in pvp unless you want to do worker harass, and even then there are better tools for that. Against an immortal heavy army I usually go straight for charge (same cost as stargate + one phoenix), and push out with lots of zealots, then fast-tech to collossi. A lot of high level pvp follow that build it seems (some opt for early immortals tho).

I just played a pretty long 2-base pvp where I went collossus and my opponent went for about a dozen phoenix. Even then it took them forever to kill my collossi. Remember that phoenix only get damage bonus vs light units. They're great against mutas and banshees, and great for harassment and graviton beam, but i've found not much else

do you think you would've been in a bit more trouble had he gone void ray?

I've never seen void rays used in pvp unless its some cheesy rush. They just seem too fragile and expensive. They're definitely a very under-used unit.

Another problem is that the targeting AI will make void rays go down pretty fast to stalkers, whereas with phoenix and corruptors you actually have to focus fire.
