As well all know by now with the flood of new information coming from all fansites across the StarCraft 2 community, the beta officially started yesterday! *This has been both an extremely exciting and disappointing day all at once. *Exciting because I honestly didn't know if that day would ever come, the seemingly endless wait and numerous delays were beginning to make me seriously jaded. *I am a huge Blizzard and StarCraft fan, have been since the release of the game. *
I*say that to say this, after tuning into some live streams of the action yesterday for the beta mayhem I find that most of the beta players have barely been following the development of StarCraft, some of which didn't even know basics of the game that extended back to the original StarCraft or even know what a Xel Naga watch tower was which has been a core component of gameplay for a couple of years. *While I'm no professional gamer I am pretty familiar with the game and consider myself to be good amongst the 20 or so gamers that I host LAN parties for on SC:BW every week. *It's disheartening for a loyal fan/customer such as myself who has been waiting for this game long before it was even announced to not only be excluded from beta but also to see that the people who were selected are mostly people who are nowhere near as excited about the game as I am.
*
Of course there are those who are deserving of such a privilege and I must say it was a treat watching Husky and Lipton's streams for a bit last night. *Out of all the people that want into this game I know that it's difficult to make an argument to hold myself up as a proper beta tester or make myself appear as a more deserving beta participant than the next. * This game has huge potential and I am excited to get my hands on it (whenever that may be), but if you are one of the select few who are in the beta, do your best to inform the community, assist Blizzard with bug reports and never forget the privilege it is to be part of a game that will probably be another defining game in the RTS history.
