Zerg Tutorial Build Order | Starcraft 2 Beta | Speed Zerglings
Zerg Tutorial Video
As promised I have taken the time to learn a little bit about the Zerg race the past few days and have come up with a build order that I feel is pretty solid for the current Beta build. The basic layout of the build order is that I build my Spawning Pool at 10 then I get quick gas for the speed upgrade for my Zerglings and use them as an initial push for pressure to keep the opposing team in their bases at the very least and hopefully do some significant damage to their economy early game which opens up a lot of options for me as far as my tech pattern goes.
I start the game off by building 4 Drones to max me out at 10/10 supply. Once I'm there I save up for a Spawning Pool (200 minerals). After placing that I build another Drone as soon as I can then build an Overlord immediately after that. As soon as I have 75 minerals after building the second Overlord I build an Extractor, placing 3 Drones in it when it finishes. When my Spawning Pool completes I build a Queen as soon as I have the 150 minerals to do that.
A quick side note about the queen that I would like to mention here is that it is absolutely imperative that you have one of these early game. In SC1 the Zerg always had to build a second Hatchery pretty early to keep up with unit production because all units are built from the Hatchery Larvae and each Hatchery has a max of 3 Larvae at a time. In SC2 you can use the Queen to spawn an additional 4 Larvae at any Hatchery which means an early second Hatchery is no longer necessary. The ability to spawn these additional 4 Larvae is only 25 energy which even if you cast that on a Hatchery every time it was available you could never run out of energy so you should always have 7 Larvae per Hatchery. This makes for some very quick army building techniques and also allows you to switch the core units in your army relatively quickly because you can produce a large number of units at once using this ability.
Anyways, moving on from the Queen, once you have maxed out at 18/18 Drones again you build another Overlord. This will put you at 26 supply, make all of your next 8 available supply solely Zerglings which will give you a total of 16. By the time you have the Zerglings built you should have the speed upgrade just finishing up which will allow you to harass relatively easily. I have simply run around Zealots and non speed Zerglings to go straight for the mineral line in many instances because the zealots and slow Zerglings cannot even come close to keeping up.
If your harassment is successful and you are able to either take a chunk out of your enemy's army or mineral line to give you an advantage you have the option to tech up a bit while you're ahead. I personally have been going for Mutalisks previously but recently I have started trying to get to Ultralisks. I have had a few bumpy games where it has worked but I haven't been able to quite find the sweet spot yet on that one. Also, if your opponents are blocking their entrance with buildings one thing that I have found very useful and doesn't delay your rush a whole lot is banelings. A handful of these can easily take down a 3 building blockade if controlled correctly.
In order to better illustrate this build order I have created another VOD laying out the build order with commentary. You can check out the VOD at the following links (I apologize for the quality of this VOD, I had some hardware go out on me so my computer is not running at full capacity so I wasn't able to capture the full HD for this one. I have some replacement parts that are on the way so hopefully I can have it fixed sometime next week.):

Once again I would like to thank Averic for letting me use his account to do these videos. He is currently too busy to utilize his account and has allowed me to use it. Unfortunately for me he won't be so busy in about a week which means I won't have as much access to the Beta to bring you this content. If anyone is willing to share an account with me or has a spare key they can throw my way so I can continue to do this I would appreciate the opportunity very much!

great BO against primarily against toss, especially if they tech slowly (usually due to them going 3 gate builds). All i can say is, the zerg in the VOD went 2nd extractor kinda late. It should go down seconds after zerg starts lair mutation.

that's a fast zergling build... normally you'd get pool after overlord...
just comparable to any other barracks/gateway timing
