    Protoss Vs Zerg | How to stop the cannon rush | SC2 | Starcraft 2

    I was confronted today with a protoss player who decided to try and do an early cannon rush on me. Even though I scouted his probe going into my base I didn't realize what he was doing until it was too late, he had a Pylon up and started making cannons before I had enough units to try to stop him once I foudn out.

    This is a fairly common cheese players do to screw people up.

    Luckily I survived the push and actually won the game after pushing out. Below I will explain how I ended up defending against this strategy and also wining the game on top of it.


    When I spotted him in my base he already had 2 pylons and 2 cannons up, and I thought to myself what kills Cannons?

    Answer : Banelings

    I immediately made 2 spine crawlers on my creep to stop him from advancing any further into my base.
    He made a couple more cannons and I made a Baneling nest. This is after I already had my Roach warren out and was lacking in units.
    I made a couple Banelings and took out 2 cannons.

    I made some more Banelings and Roaches which nullified the threat.

    This wasn't an ideal situation, back in his base he was teching and expanding to carriers. When I was just getting my first expansion and getting teching to Hydralisks.

    With a nice mixture of upgrades and roach/hydralisk army I was able to defend against one of his zealot/stalker pushes fairly easily.

    With some more forces I pushed out and ended the game by basically massing hydralisks with a light roach army. The hydralisk are very good against stalkers and in groups, even better against carriers (especially with armor upgraded). I was able to deny any base harassment with extra hydralisks left at my base. And with my main force, I cleaned up his base and ended the game.

    This would have never happened had I initially noticed the probe entering into my base in the first place, and scouting my surrounding area before it became a serious threat.

    I tend to scout in 1v1's with the first probe that comes out of my nexus just to make sure they arnt doing anyhting funny. This also helps to build counter strats off of their early game production.

    IE:
    Early Gass
    Early Expand
    Proxy Base
    Multi Gateway/Barracks
    Fast Tech
    Photon Cannon or Bunker Rush

    Thies all can be easly countered with a fast scout

    But congrats on that comeback i hate getting cannon rushed

    Thats right.

    Scouting with the first probe, drone, svc can and will save you from the rush. Allriight, you might have to build your extractor or have a drone 5 secs later, but it will give you the win if you know how to adjust.

    And don't forget you can shift-move your drone multiple times into your enemy base, so you can see whats he's doing, and he will have to tie one drone to yours, and you don't even need to watch it. Harrassing is fun.

    Make sure you detect any sign of rush to your base.

    There are many signs but here's a couple, feel free to add more!

    I.E. Ran has no rax in his base, hasnt walled. has fast raf, tech lab?
    I.E. Toss has only a forge?
    I.E. Zerg has 6 pooled.

    This can only be sighted with a fast scouting drone. Also if playing zerg, don't forget to put your overlords on your cliffs, these are the prefered spots for rushes.

    Please scout and adjust, this will be a big improvement to your game.
