    Viable ZvZ build?

I was sitting here reading the ZvZ guide i EDITED yesterday and then it hit me... why even bother with roaches once you can get infestors?

I want to experiment with a Hydra/Infestor combination.

The idea is that with REALLY GOOD infestor micro, you can fungal growth everything. FG on zerg/bane kills it. FG on Roaches ensnares them and allows hydras to OUTRANGE the roaches, getting free pot shots without them even fighting back. FG is even more effective against mutalisks, because FG ensnares them and turns their mobility to 0. The only problem would be ultralisks... since they don't get stunned, snared, or mind controlled anymore. But you have hydralisks that counter them anyway... so it's not too big of a deal to just "burrow" your infestor and move it to the back of ur army.

So... why not scrap roaches once you can get infestors?

    TELL ME WHY NOT?

Because overseers are one of the first things I spawn in a 1v1 to counter roaches with burrow and movement so Infestors would be seen as well.

Oh, and if you mismanage once you're basically screwed.

But I dunno, it seems really nice in theory but definitely needs some practical application testing.

How can you honestly say skipping roaches all together and going for infestors won't have a gap in your offense/defense in some form?

The real question is getting to infestor tech.

I think the best way to get to T2 would be:
    • Make the 1st queen once pool is up. Extractor when queen 75% done. First 25 energy go to creep tumor and remember to keep spreading creep towards choke.
    • Make another queen once the first is done. Start making 2 spinecrawlers.
    • Once 2nd queen is done, morph hatch into lair. Have the 2nd queen spawn larva, then move her towards choke. Get 2nd extractor seconds after lair begins morphing.
    • Once hatch is evolving to lair, make an evo chamber at choke to begin wall-off. Move the 2 spinecrawlers to the choke, making a 3rd one to complete the wall-off. The two queens should be on the top part of ramp to block all movement (roaches should not be able to do much damage since right behind the queens, you got 7 range spinecrawlers).

I wanna say, quick infestors is not a good idea because infestors will not give you map control which is essential for a quick tech unit to provide. But transitioning to hydra/infestors after Mutas sounds much better. If they transition to hydras, the mutas will win (yes late hydras lose to rushing mutas). But if they decide to also go Mutas with queens, than you will lose mapcontrol and the game will be a huge muta fest. That is when hydras with heavy infestor support will own.

By the time you have one infestor, it will not successfully stop a 50 army ling/baneling push.
By the time you have 2 infestors and 10 hydras, it will not stop a 30 army roach push.
You have to make it to the mid-game with mapcontrol (mutas) or good footing (something more typical like roaches).
